Why are headgaskets so easy to fail on very expensive cars?

Johnstickedoff asked:

The buying public pay way too much for cars with weak mechanical failures as head gaskets and are expensive to repair? American cars are junk!

Just replaced the head gasket in the wife's Toyota Celica. It's not only American Cars.

They make high performance gaskets that are much better than the standard ones. They cost a little more, and I'm with you, WHY DON'T THEY USE THEM???

Anyway, big companies get richer faster by using cheaper materials, then reap more rewards by having to charge for expensive repairs. If they made good products, you'd only have to buy one in your lifetime. They'd loose money because you wouldn't be buying cars as often.

american cars are junk …. obviously we have had different experiences. in my 35, yes thirty five cars i have owned the only blown head gasket i had was in a TOYOTA….strange…84 toyotas were not made in the states….
if you had ANY insight into the real automotive world you would know that most newer cars come with a MLS head gasket. do some research on MLS since i am sure you have no clue as to what that is….
i always say think before you speak….
