why the american made cars are pieces of Junk?
Xperman asked:
Definitely I Used to drive a crhysler car (dodge 400) that end up in the junk yard. after that car I had a Mustang same thing I have to sell it to the Junk yard, ten i got a Cadillac Catera, and I'm no lying the car was beautifull but It was anothe piece of junk I end up Donating the car because it spend more time in the shop than in the road, Volkswagen its anothe piece of precious junk, after the last car (cadillac catera) a friend sold me his car a toyota civic 91 the car really lasted my for more than 9 years with the minimum maintenance and still I sold it for 1000 dlls because I just bought a Toyota Rav4. definitely I think that the american car makers should start putting more attention to the releability of their cars and more gas efficient, instead of just big and nice.

Plain and simple the engineers in Japan are more educated than ours. Look at Japanese K-12 curriculum, you'd think you're in grad school or something.

I'd have to agree that the Cadillac Catera is a piece of junk-my mom had one, and it was a never ending stream of problems. There were designed and built in Germany, though, by Opel, so they're not really even an American car.
We currently have four American cars sitting in the driveway-all of them Lincolns. A '98 Continental, '99 Towncar, '01 Continental, and '04 LS. The '98 Continental we've had since 2002, and put just a little over 50,000 miles on it(it's at 95,000 now). The Towncar we've had for 2 years and about 26,000 miles-it's just a few miles short of 103,000 now. The other two we've had for a relatively short amount of time(last September on the LS, December on the '01 Continental) and both have in the neighborhood of 60,000 miles.
All have been incredibly reliable. Yes, we keep the maintenance up on them, and that's all they've really needed. The Towncar needed a new ignition coil not too long ago, but that's the only thing it's been in the shop for aside from maintenance. The older Continental needed new coil packs a few years ago, but I think the only other major repair has been a lighting control module that went bad.
Honestly, the only really bad American car we've had has been the Catera. In the past 20 years, we've had Fords('93 T-bird), Chevys(S-10 pickup, two Lumina Minivans, Corsica), Oldmobiles(88), Pontiacs(Bonneville) and Cadillacs(Catera). Like I said, the Catera was the only bad one.
In that time, we've also had Toyotas and Nissans, both of which have also been equally reliable. We also had a German car, a Porshe 924, that was horrible, but mostly due to its age and the fact that it sat for several years before coming our way. It's worth noting, however, that the most recent Toyota product we owned was a '96 Tacoma. The Tacomas of this vintage are being bought back(by Toyota) and crushed because of dangerous frame rust. So, the Japanese cars aren't immune to large scale problems either.

It Really Depends How You Drive It. Umm Like, How Many Miles A Day You Drive, What You Use It For, Where You Live, Ect…
Domestic Cars Are Not Piece Of Junks, Just Like All Cars It Depends On How You Take Care Of Them. Ive Had A Ford Mustang 2007, Drives 100 Miles A Week And Still Works Like New, Never Once Had Fixed It.
However My Mom Had A BMW 1997, First Two Years It Was In Out Of Repair Shops, Nothing For About 10 Years, Then Issues Again.
Also, Did You Buy The Car Used Or Brand New? If Used Did You Do A Car Inspection? It Could Because Of That. The Friend Who Sold You A toyota civic Probably Took Care Of It.
